Swedish American Edward Hanssen invented submerged battleship according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated 18 May 1923
An item referred to American tidings that a Swedish American called Edward Hanssen of Cleveland invented a complete new type of warship. It was a combination between a battleship and a submarine and called by Hanssen a submerged battleship. It had a length of 600 feet, fitted out with petrol fired engines and armed with heavy guns mounted in armoured turrets. When a gun was fired, was via a hydraulic system the gun turret lifted out of the water. In the USA was enthusiastic reacted calling it the future weapon and patented it. Some European cabinets were approached.
