British Lord Hailsham accented value of battleships according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 16 November 1934

King George V-class

An item referred to the statement of Lord Hailsham (1) in the British House of Lords claiming that battleships still were the backbone of the fleet. The press translated this as announcing building new battleships to replaced aged ones.(2)
