Building costs of new British battleships increased dramatically according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 19 February 1923

An item referred to official statements of the British government dealing with the immense increase of the building costs of warships. In 1914 were the costs for a 1st class battleship 500.000 pound sterling, nowadays due the increased labour and material costs 3,3 million pound sterling. The Limburgsch dagblad dated 20th home made some remarks by this so-called decrease. A modern battleship had not a 1005 match with the earlier battleships. War experiences demanded larger tonnages and more offensive and defensive rearmament and automatically higher costs.
