Japan objected against British proposal to keep battleships longer in service according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 28 June 1927

An item dated Tokyo, Japan 27th reported that the Japanese cabinet by telegram admitted her principal delegate Saito (1) at the 3-power conference (2) to discuss the service time of battleships. Japan objected against the British proposal that battleships would have a lifetime of 26 years also while Japanese battleships were designed for a lifetime of 20 years. It seemed however that a compromise was possible.
