Stricken American battleship USS Washington used as gunnery target according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 27 November 1924

An item referred that the stricken American battleship Washington (1) was used as target for the 14” guns of the battleship Texas. Afterwards became clear that there was hardly any damage. The hull was nearly complete intact and the piercing of the armour below the waterline was not dangerous. The Texas fired 7 shells and 5 submerged projectiles [torpedoes?].

Laid down by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation, Camden, New Jersey, USA on 30 June 1919, launched by Jean Summers on 1 September 1921, building stopped on 8 February 1922 as a result of the Washington Naval treaty and sunk by the USS New York and Texas while used as a gunnery target on 26 November 1924.
