Turkey bought Italian battleships according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 8 November 1913


An item referred to the correspondent of the Temps at Athens, Greece reporting the sale by Italy to Turkey of the 3-more as 13.000 battleships Sardegna, Sicilia and Re Umberto built between 1888-1891.(1) The main condition was that the ships were not earlier handed over the peace treaty between Greece and Turkey was ratified.

1. Elsewhere called the Re Umberto-class ironclad battleships preceded by the Ruggiero di Lauria-class and succeeded by the Ammiraglio di Saint Bon-class, with a main armament of 2x2-34,3cm/13,5“ /30 guns, displacement 13.673 (normal)-15.454 (full load) tons and as dimensions 127,6 x 23,4 x 9,3 metres. All three ships served in the war between Italy-Turkey between 1911-1912 and none was sold to Turkey.
