USA building new battle cruisers according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 28 September 1920


Possible appearance after a modernisation although still a battle cruiser

Preliminary design after conversion into an aircraft carrier dated 18-02-1922

USS Saratago after conversion into an aircraft carrier

An item dated Washington, USA 27th reported that on the 26th within just a few hours the keel was laid down of 3 large 43.000 ton battle cruisers for the US navy, each to be armed with 8-16” guns. The ships were to be named Constitution, Saratoga and United States.(1)

1. Of the Lexington-class of which the Lexington and Saratoga were completed as aircraft carriers while the completion of the Ranger, Constellation, Constitution and United States was cancelled.
