Nevada-class

Of the New York-class battleships consisting of the New York and the Texas. Preceded by the Wyoming-class and succeeded by the Nevada-class. Building ordered on 24 June 1910, laid down by Newport News Shipbuilding on 17 April 1911, baptized by Claudia Lyon, launched on 18 May 1912, commissioned on 12 March 1914, modernized 1925-1926, refitted in 1937, decommissioned on 21 April 1948, stricken on 30 April 1948 and nowadays museum ship. Building costs 11.179,195 US dollars.

Original displacement 27.433 (standard)-28.882 (full load) tons and as dimensions 172 (waterline)-175 (over all) x 29,020 x 8,69 (mean)-9,02 (maximum) metres or 565‘-573’ x 95’2.5” x 28.6’-29.7’. Displacement after 1926: with torpedo bulges added 27.000 (standard)-33.000 (full load) tons as dimensions 172 (waterline)-175 (over all) x 32,31/106.0’ x 9.60m/31.6”.

Machinery consisted of 2 vertical triple expansion steam engines and 14 Babcock&Wilcox coal fuelled boilers (8 superheated) with oil sprayed over the coal to obtaining a better burning. Horsepower 28.100 (design)-28.737 shp (trials), Speed 19,72 (after 1926) 21 (design)-21,05 (trials). Original range 7.060 nautical miles with a speed of 10 knots and 2.900 (design) tons coal bunker capacity, after conversion in oil fuelled was her oil bunker capacity 5.300 tons. Range after 1926 with a speed of 10 knots 15.400 nautical miles. After 1926 6 Bureau Express oil fuelled boilers.

Armour consisted of  a  24,5-30,5cm/10-12” thick belt, 5,1cm/2” thick deck, lower casemate 22,9-27,9cm/9-11” and the upper casemate 16,5cm/6.5”, with gun turrets, barbettes and conning tower protected by respectively 5,1cm/2”(sides)-10,2cm/4” (top)-20,3cm/8” (rear)-35,6cm/14” (face), 25,4cm/10-30,5cm/12” and 10,2cm/4”-30,5cm/12” (top). In 1945 was the armour on the tops of the gun turrets further thickened with 4,4cm/1.75”.

Original armament consisted of 5x2-35,6cm/14” /45 cal guns, 21-12,7cm/5” /51 cal guns. 4-4,7cm/1.85”/3pd  /40 cal saluting guns, 2-3,7cm/1.46”/ 1pd guns and 4-53,3cm/21” submerged torpedo tubes (2x bow, 2xstern). Armament after 1926 5x2-35,6cm/14” /45 cal guns, 16-12,7cm/5” /51 cal guns and 8-7,6cm/3” /50 cal anti aircraft guns. Fitted out with 3 float planes for which there was one catapult placed on turret 3. In 1937 were 2x4-2,8cm/1.1” /75cal anti aircraft guns added. Armament after 1942 5x2-35,6cm/14” /45 cal guns, 6-12,7cm/5” /51 cal guns, 10-7,6cm/3” /50 cal anti aircraft guns, 6/10x4-4cm/2” Bofors anti aircraft guns and 44-2cm/1” Oerlikon cannon. After 1945 5x2-35,6cm/14” /45 cal guns, 6-12,7cm/5” /51 cal guns, 10-3” /50 guns, 10x4-4cm/1.6” Bofors anti aircraft guns and 44-2cm Oerlikon cannons.

Crew numbered 1.042 men.
