US Navy building new monitors according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1899 no. 1

An item reported that the designs for the four new American monitors of which already the building was ordered but yet not started, were considerable changed. In stead of the planned one gun turret, were they now to be fitted out with two turrets and the displacement with around 1.000 tons increased to a 4.000 tons. The main armament was to consist of 2x2-25cm guns. Freeboard fore lifted with 5cm. Speed increased with one knot.
