British Royal Navy lacking submarine chasers and anti aircraft cruisers according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1938 no. 5
An item referred to the magazine U.S.R. dated May 1938 reporting that the escort vessels operating in coastal waters needed not a very high maximum speed but to be able to hunt, pursuit and destroy submarines. Their armament needed to be sufficient against aircraft and submarine attacks. Of this new kind of vessel were already some available within the British Royal Navy. The intention was to rearmed the older escort vessels and older destroyers for the same purposes. At the same time were the cruisers of the C en D-class converted into anti aircraft cruisers.
