Design of French battleship Charlemagne modified during building according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1897-1898 No. 7
An item referred to the magazine le Yacht reporting that during her building of the French battleship Charlemagne the design was changed on some points. The two projected surfaced torpedo launchers in the aft ships were rejected, leaving her total number of launchers to 4 of which 2 surfaced in the fore ship protected by light armour.(1)

1. Belonged to the Charlemagne-class with as sister ships the Gaulois and the St. Louis. This class was preceded by the Jauréguiberry-class and succeeded by the République-class. The Charlemagne was laid down at the navy shipyard at Brest on 14 July 1894, launched on 12 October 1895, commissioned in December 1899, stricken in 1920 and finally broken up. Building costs 1,096,432£.
