Germany interested in acquiring Canadian island Antocosti according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1938 no. 5

An item referred to the magazine U.S.R. dated 16 June 1938 reporting that the Canadian government worried about the future of the island Antocosti in the entrance to the St. Lawrence Bay and part of the province Quebec. In the past was the island hired by a French cacao firm and since then property of the Consolidated papers Company. This firm intended to sell the island, possible to foreign interests. A while ago was the island visited by Germans which suggested to be timber experts but which were in fact military and naval experts. The opposition in the Canadian parliament demanded that a sale abroad was prevented fearing what the consequences in times of war.
