The German naval shipbuilding program according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 24 December 1938

An item dated London, England 19th December referred to the newest Jane’s Fighting Ships which was just published. The news item was especially dealing with the shipbuilding programs of the major naval powers England, France, Italy, Japan added with Russia and Germany but strangely not mentioning the USA. The German program consisted of 3 battleships with a main armament of 15” guns and it was believed that a fourth battleship was projected.(1)

1. The Bismarck-class consisted of the Bismarck and Tirpitz with a displacement of 50.300-52.600 tons and a main armament of 4x2-38cm/15” guns.
