American cruiser USS Chester sent to Mexican waters according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 11 March 1911

An item reported the US department of navy sent the fast cruiser Chester (1) towards Tampico, east coast of Mexico.(2) The department of war ordered 3 planes towards Texas, USA for reconnaissance tasks.

1. Scout cruiser (CL-1), laid down at bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, USA on 25 September 1905, launched on 26 June 1907 and sold to be broken up on 13 May 1930.
2. An official statement of the USA was that this was done to prevent the smuggling of persons and arms over the frontiers for a total useless revolt which disturbed for more a year  the order in the border area. Between 1920-1920 was Mexico harassed by the so-called Mexican Revolution started in 1910 with the presidential election causing Porfirio Diaz to resign on 25 May 1911, He had been president since 1 December 1884.
