Argentine training frigate General Sarmiento launched at Birkenhead, England according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1897-1898 No. 7

An item referred to the magazine le Yacht reporting that the at the shipyard of Laird, Birkenhead, England the steel built training frigate General Sarmento for account of Argentina was launched. With a displacement of 2.800 ton were the dimensions 81 x 13 x 6,10 (aft) x 7,73 (hold) metres. Fitted out with a vertical triple expansion steam engine allowing a speed of 10 (natural draft)-13 (forced draft) miles. The armament consisted of 5-12cm Armstrong quick firing guns, 2-7,5cm quick firing guns, 4-5,7cm quick firing guns, 2-4,7cm quick firing guns, 2-3,5cm quick firing guns, 2 Mauser machineguns and 3 torpedo tubes.(1)
