American torpedo boat USS Stiletto converted for testing dynamite torpedo gun according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1887-1888 no. 8

An item reported that the wood built torpedo boat Stiletto (1) of the US Navy was to be fitted out with the pneumatic dynamite torpedo gun of Zalinski.(2) Projected armament 2 pneumatic guns and 1-3,7cm/1.45” revolver gun with 600 shots. Displacement 35,6 tons. The hull was divided into 6 watertight compartments keep dry with an ejector. Fitted out with a Herreshoff boiler. Medium speed 22,9 miles on the measured mile during 6 runs. Coal bunker capacity 7 tons. Crew numbered 10 men.

Laid down by Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, Bristol, Rhode Islands, USA on private speculation in 1885, purchased by the US navy and launched on 3 March 1887, commissioned on July 1887, stricken on 27 January 1911 and sold to be broken up on 18 July 1911. Attached to the Naval Torpedo Station at Newport, Rhode Island and used for tests.
