British auxiliary cruiser Forfar lost according to the Dutch newspaper De standaard dated 13 February 1941

An item referred to the Associated Press which reported that the British auxiliary cruiser Forafer [=Forfar] (1) which loss was announced by the British Admiralty in December 1940 was identified by shipping experts at New York, USA as the Montrose. This was a 16.402 tons passenger ship of the Canadian Pacific Line.

1. Sunk by the German submarine U-99 500 nautical miles west of Ireland on 2 December 1940. Launched as the ss Montrose for account of the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Govan, Scotland on 14 December 1920. Operated by the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company. Acquired by the British Royal Navy on 4 September 1939. Pennant F30. Gross register tonnage 16.402 tons and as dimensions 167,x x 21,4 metres or 548’7” x 70’2”. Speed 17 knots. Crew numbered 193 men. Armament consisted of 8-15,2cm/6” guns and 3-7,6cm/3.0” guns.
