An item
referred tidings received from Washington, USA reporting that the oil tanker
California on 27 January saw a floating mine on a distance of 600 miles South
West of the Azores. The same item referred to a yet anonymous steamship which
was lost caused by an anonymous disaster but which could be now perhaps
explained as a mine.
