Italian light cruiser Emanuele Filiberto Duca d’Aosta 1932-1949 and Russian Z15-Stalingrad-Kerch 1949-1959


Part of the Condottieri-class of the subclass Duca d’Aosta with as sistership Eugenio di Savoia.  Laid down on 29 October 1932, launched on 22 April 1934, commissioned on 13 July 1935, ceded to Russia as war compensation in March 1949, handed over to Russia as the Z15 on 2 March 1949, renamed Stalingrad and later Kerch, stricken on 20 February 1959 and broken up in the 1960s.

Displacement 186,9 x 17,5 x 6,1 metres or 613.2 x 57.5 x 20.0  feet. The machinery consisted of 2 shaft Belluzzo/Parsons geared turbines and 6 Yarrow boilers supplying 110.000 hp allowing a speed of 36,5 knots. With a speed of 14 knots was the range 3.900 nautical miles. Crew numbered 578 men. Armour consisted of a 7cm/2.8’ thick belt, a 3,5cm/1.4” thick deck with the gun turrets and conning tower protected by respectively 9cm/3.5” and 10cm/3.9. The armament consisted of 4x2-16,2cm/6”guns, 3x2-10cm/3.9” guns, 4x2-3,7cm/1.5” and 4x2-1,32cm/0.51”guns. For the 2-3 Ro 43 floatplanes she could carry with her was one catapult available.
