US Navy ordered building of 3 1st class torpedo boats according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 6

An item referred to the Army and Navy Journal reporting that the US navy ordered the building of 3 1st class torpedo boats each with maximum building costs of 175.000 US dollars. Displacement 185 tons, length 170’ and draught 5’6”, vertical triple expansion 3.100hp steam engines and a contracted speed of 26 miles. The 3 torpedo boats were in such a manner mounted that in all directions could be fired independent of the weather conditions. Further more consisted the armament of 4-1pd quick firing guns.
