French navy wanted building of smaller warships instead of battleships according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1923

An item referred to the German magazine Schiffbau reporting that within the French navy there was a huge opposition against the building battleships. In stead wanted men smaller ships. The general opinion was that especially in the Mediterranean and in case of a Franco-Italian war a battleship was to a large extent vulnerable for attacks by aircraft or submarines.
