US Navy succeeded in purchasing cheaper armour plates according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 6

An item reported that the Carbol Steel Company got an order for 3.960 tons of armour plates against 773 mark per ton, which was 30% cheaper as in the past. The former armour plates delivering firms refused to lower their prices despite the threat of the US cabinet to found herself an armour plates plant.
