An item dated Tokyo, Japan 20th referred to a statement of the spokesman of the department of navy who denied that Japan was building a 43.000 tons battleship.(1) Another newspaper De Sumatra post dated 21 January mentioned instead of 43.000 tons 46.000 tons and said the spokesman, which was [rear] admiral Noda, would not take the responsible for what was correct while he was not familiar with the naval building program.

1. This was the Yamoto-class of which 4 were planned, the Musashi (1938-1944) and Yamoto (1937-1945) completed as battleships, the Shinano (1940-1944) as aircraft carrier. The ships were even larger as the 43.000 tons mentioned in the newspaper. The general class displacement was 69.300 (trial)-1.111 (standard)-73.000 (full load) tons
