Turkey hold Greek merchant ships suspected of transporting contraband according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 7 March 1935

An item dated Istanbul, Turkey 7th reported that the Turkish authorities hold 5 Greek merchant ships which were passing the Bosporus on the suspicion that the ships were transporting victuals and coals for the Greek rebels. One of the ships was property of the Venizelos family.(1)

Eleftherios Venizelos (23 August Mournies, Chainia, Crete, Ottoman Empire-18 March 19356 Paris, France) was an important Greek politician including being prime minister of Greece and leader of the Greek national liberation movement. He was the big man behind the Second Hellenic Republic (1924-1935).
