Austrian battleship Prinz Eugen used by French navy as target for aircraft according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1921

Tegethoff-class

An item referred to the Aerial Age reporting that the French navy intended to test the result of dropping bombs on the former Austrian armoured cruiser Prinz Eugen, just like the US Navy tests with the USS Indiana. Although the discussions which was superior battleship or submarines was ended in a victory for the battleship, the aircraft was yet an unknown factor. The armour decks of the Prinz Eugene were before the tests begun strengthened.(1)

1. Part of the Tegethoff-class battleships consisting of the Tegethoff, Viribus Unitis, Prinz Eugen and Szent István, preceded by the Radetzky-class and succeeded by the Ersatz Monarch-class. Designed/built as an answer on the Italian dreadnought Dante Alighieri. Building ordered in 1908. Laid down at the Stabilimento Tecnico Triestino yard, Trieste, Italy on 16 January 1912, launched on 30 November 1912, commissioned on 8 July 1914, after the First World War ceded to France, disarmed and sunk as gunnery target in the Atlantic Ocean in June 1922.
