Part of the Halifax-class consisting of the Halifax, Vancouver, Ville de Québec, Toronto, Regina, Calgary, Montréal, Fredericton, Winnipeg, Charlottetown, St. John’s and Ottawa, preceded by the Annapolis class. Laid down by Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd., Saint John, Canada on 18 December 1993, launched on 1 October 1994, commissioned on 9 September 1995 and modernized between April 2013-April 2014. Canada-flagged, homeport CFB Halifax and MMSI 316130000. Displacement 3.995 (light)-4.795 (operational)-5.032 (deep load) tons and as dimensions 134,2 x 16,5 x 7,1 metres or 440 x 54 x 23 feet. Machinery consisted of 2-LM500 Gas turbines and 1 SEMT Pielstick diesel engine. Speed 30 knots and a range of 9,500 nautical miles. Crew including an air detachment for her helicopter CH -124 Sea King numbers 225 persons. Armament consisted of 1-5,7cm/2.2” .70 calibre Mark2 Bofors gun, 1-2cm Vulcan Phalanx CIWS, 6-12,7mm/0.50 /50 cal machineguns, 24 Honeywell Mk46 torpedoes for twin torpedo tubes, 2-8 cell Mk48 Mod O launchers for Envolved Sea Sparrow SAM, 2x4-RGM-84 Harpoon SSM launchers.
