Austrian collier Java chartered by Russia ordered to leave Port Saïd, Egypt according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 15 February 1904

An item dated London, England 14th reported that the Austrian collier Java chartered by the Russian government for Port Arthur was at Port Said, Egypt treated as belonging to one of the countries involved. She was ordered to leave at one the harbour. At the moment was she unloading her cargo of coal.(1)

1. Egypt was under British control since 1882 as a protectorate a de facto although the Egyptian Khedivate remained a de jure a province of the Ottoman empire.
