England stationing Short Sunderland flying boats at Singapore according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1938 no. 6

An item referred to the magazine U.S.R. dated 1 September 1938 reporting that the sultans and populations of the Malay States have 292,000 pound sterling as part of the costs for stationing 8 Short Sunderland flying boats at Singapore. The first four were to be named Terak, Senangor, Pehang and Negri Sembilan, the fifth probably Johore after the sultan of Johore who was the initiator behind the gift.
