Performance of 6” guns of British cruisers was superior to the 8” guns according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1939 no. 2

An item referred to the U.S.R. dated 1December 1938 reporting that the main armament of the newest British cruisers consisting of 12-15cm/6” supplied a superior salvo compared with the 8-20,3cm/8” guns of the Devonshire-class. The 15cm gun could no longer be outranged and the heavier weight of a 8” salvo was more than compensated by the higher rate of fire of the smaller 6” guns.
