An item reported that the head of the Koralovag Naval Shipyard at Varna, Bulgaria was engineer Atanasov. The yard with the over all dimensions 500x300 metres for repairing and newbuilding of small ships was controlled by the Maritime Section of Transportation at Sofia, Bulgaria while Bulgaria was lacking an independent department for merchant marine. The general directorate for naval shipyards managed by engineer Dimitir Slavov was established at Sofia (2 Levski Street). Slavov was an experienced manager, working since 1930 in the office of the director. The technical management of the Varna naval shipyards was located elsewhere namely in the square of the National Theatre sharing a building with the National Bank.
The strength of the yard personnel numbered around 3.000 labourers. Since 1948 were also Soviet technicians working on the yard, their number was unknown and the report did not specify if they were part of the yard personnel. At the end of 1950 were 6-7 buildings for housing workers finished with another 7-8 building still under construction. Each building numbered 14-16 apartments. Lacking enough reinforcing rods was the project not completed although it was expected that this would probably be the case in 1951.
The yard included 2 masonry basins with as dimensions 300x20 metres. Two of the four electric travelling 40 tons cranes with a height of 20-25 metres delivered by the Soviet Union were installed, the other two yet not. It was clear that the yard lacked enough shipbuilding material. The carpentry shop with an area of 1.200 square metres built in 1949-1950 included a caulking section.
