Part of the Cannon-class destroyer escorts, preceded by the Buckley-class and succeeded by the Edsall-class. Of the 116 planned ships were 72 completed and which served in the navies of the USA, Brazil, Free France, Greece, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan (Republic of China, South Korea. Thailand, Italy, Peru and Uruguay.

Laid down by Tampa Shipbuilding Company, Tampa, Florida, USA on 9 March 1943, launched on 20 February 1944, commissioned on 1 May 1944, decommissioned on 26 September 1947, stricken on 7 March 1951, handed over to Greece on 1 March 1951, renamed Aetos (D01) and commissioned in the Greek navy, decommissioned on 5 July 1991 and returned to the USA and became a museum ship at Albany.

With a displacement of 1.260 tons were her dimensions 93 x 11,18 x 2,67 metres or 306 x 36.8 x 8.9 feet. The machinery consist of 4 General Motors Mod. 16-278A diesels with electric drive allowing with the 6.000 ship and 2 screws a speed of 21 knots and a range of 10.900 nautical miles with a speed of 12 knots.
