British Southampton-class light cruisers fitted out with aircraft hangars according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1937 No. 3

An item referred to the magazine le Yacht dated 27 March 1937 reported that the new British Southampton-class cruisers were fitted out with 2 hangars each for storage of an amphibious aircraft. A third aircraft was fixed on the catapult. Above the hangars was the multi barrelled light anti aircraft armament mounted. The main anti aircraft armament consisted of 4x2-10,2cm/4” guns.(1)

1. Town-class Southampton class light cruisers, consisting of the Newcastle, Southampton, Sheffield, Glasgow and Birmingham, succeeded by Arethusa-class and succeeded by the Dido-class. The designed armament consisted of 4x3-15,2cm/6” Mk XXIII guns, 4x2-10,2cm/4” quick firing Mk XVI guns, 2x4-4cm/2pd Mk VIII pom-pom guns, 8-12,7cm/0.5” Vickers machineguns and 2x3-53,3cm?21” torpedo tubes.
