Of the Shokaku-class aircraft carriers, consisting of the Shokaku and Zuikaku, preceded by the Hiryu and succeeded by the Taiho, laid down on 12 December 1937, launched on 1 June 1939, commissioned on 8 August 1941 and sunk by the American submarine USS Cavalla during the Battle of the Philippine Sea on 19 June 1944.
