Part of the Notoro-class consisting of the Notoro, Shiretoko, Erimo, Sata, Tsurumi. Shinya and Iro, after conversion of some units was this class known as the Erimo-class. Built under the so-called Eight-four and Eight-six plans. Laid down by Kawasaki Kobe shipyard on 24 November 1919, launched on 17 July 1920, completed on 20 September 1920, converted into a seaplane tender on 1 June 1934, conversion back into a tanker started in 1941 but in January 1943 was she still used as a seaplane tender when the American submarine USS Gar heavily damaged her, heavily damaged by Allied aircraft attacking Singapore on 5 November 1944 and further used as floating oil storage vessel and finally scuttled off Singapore on 12 January 1947.

General technical details as tankers.
Displacement 15.647(standing) tons and as dimensions 138,68 (between perpendiculars) x 17,68 x 8,08 metres or 455.0 x 58.0 x 26.6 feet. Machinery consisting of 1 triple expansion reciprocating steam engine and 4 Scotch boilers supplying via 1 shaft 3.750shp allowing a speed of 12 knots. Cargo capacity 8.000 ton of fuel oil. Crew numbered 142 men. Armament consisted of 2-12,7cm/4.7” L/45 naval guns and 2-7,62cm/3” L/40 anti aircraft guns. As seaplane tender able to carry with her 8 E8N ‘Dave’ planes of which two were disassembled.
