Japanese workers fired by Olongapo US Navy yard according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1907-1908 no. 7

An item referred that the rumours about a war between the USA and the Japan and Japanese efforts (1) to collect more details about the American defence works and military plans resulted in firing more as 100 Japanese workers at the Olongapo navy yard (2). Yard director captain Uriah R. Harris (3) stated to have received orders from Washington to do this. The Japanese were as much possible to be replaced by Chinese.
