Senegalese sailors serving in French navy according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 4

An item reported that the French navy intended to add as an experiment to the large number of sailors Senegalese men to serve on board of the division active in the Moroccan waters. The restriction however was that the Senegalese sailors only were to be used for ammunition transport and on the fireplaces commanded by their own petty officers. One quart of the regular French sailors were replaced in such manner. The division consisted of some aged protected cruisers with a maximum displacement of 4.000 ton.
