Soviet Union ordering building of more timber carriers according to the Dutch magazine Schip en Werf dated 22 March 1935

An item reported that the Dutch shipyard Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw Maatschappij, Amsterdam, Netherlands was ordered to built 2 so-called Amsterdam design timber carriers for Russian account. According to rumours was Russia to order on short notice another 12-15 timber carriers mainly to be built on the Continent and just 3-4 in England. The Scandinavian countries were less pleased with the latest developments while Russia bought in the recent past a large number of ships especially for the timber shipping. They feared that Russia would take over the complete control over this shipping together with some countries like England with which trade agreements were concluded. Until now had Scandinavian shipping companies specialized in timber shipping the largest share in transporting timber out of Russia.
