German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee regularly changed her name to mislead allies according to the Dutch newspaper De Indische courant dated 21 December 1939

An item dated London, England 19th December referred to an interview of captain Langsdorff for Radio New York that during his voyage the name of his ship the Admiral Graf Spee several times was changed in Deutschland of Admiral Scheer. This was done to suggest that in the same area 3 pocket battleships were active.(1)
