An item reported that it was believed that two new Chinese navy W-class submarines were working-up. On 2nd April was one sighted near the entrance of the Yangtse using her own machinery. It was doubtful o f the environment of Shanghai was the right location for trials lacking sufficient depth. It was to be considered that the submarines were transferred to another base like Tsingtao, Port Arthur and Tinghai in the Chusan area after the boats were completed.(1)
