Tenth Anniversary of the October Revolution Shipyard, Astrakhan, Soviet Union responsible for maintenance of diesel tugs according to a CIA report dated 26 March 1953

An item reported that the Tenth Anniversary of the October Revolution Shipyard, Astrakhan, Soviet Union was responsible for the major and minor repairs of tugs and barges. The diesel twin screw steel build tugs had as general dimensions 50 x 10 x 2 (above the waterline) metres and were fitted out with a single 4 cylinder diesel engine without compression with a varying horsepower of 1.100 and 1.800hp. Mainly was each tug fitted out with 2-150 kw/hour tugs although some had a third one for emergencies. Auxiliary machines, steering and anchor equipment were electrically operated. Every tug had a short wave radio on board. The crews could number maximum 30 men. Speed varied between 5/6 (towing full barge)-8/9 (towing empty barge)-12 (alone) knots with a range of 300 nautical miles. With a speed of 12 miles was it possible to turn 360 degrees within 30 seconds.
