An item reported that the Swedish admiralty staff proposed to increase the fleet between 1908-13 wih 4 armoured ships, 6 armoured gunboats, 4 torpedo cruisers, 20 destroyers, 24 torpedo boats 1st class and around 20 submarines to be able to maintain a fleet in the Kattegat after the union with Norway ended.(1) Further more was it desired to convert Göteborg into a naval base and found a small war harbour at the coast of Nordland and a naval station in the Aland islands where in the past Russia built defence works.
