An item reported that the Portuguese cabinet ordered the British shipyard Messrs. Yarrow&Co., Glasgow (earlier Poplar, London) to built 6 small draught gunboats to serve at Macau. Dimensions were to be 36,57 x 6.09 metres x 0.63 (with 25 tons loaded) metres. The armament was to be consist of quick firing guns protected against rifle fire. Yarrow was also to deliver the machinery including boilers. The two screws were Yarrow patent tunnelled. The gunboats were at the shipyard alongside the Clyde to be completely built, disassembled and send to Macau and there to be assembled again and launched. Speed was to be 10,8 knots.
