An item reported that on the section Wroclaw-Redzin-Gryfino [the former German places Breslau-Ransern-Greifenhagen] the Polish steam tug Karkonosze (ex-Kopernik) master (gnu) Sabota was active. She was a former German tug purchased at the End of the Second World War.
This section was considered to be one of the more difficult parts of the river due to lacking sufficient maintenance. With water level it was quite common that shipping was impossible while alluvial sand deposits at Gorzyca [former German Goeritz] near Kostrzyn [former German Kuestrin] were not regularly dredged. Other problems were to be expected in the Frankfurt/Oder-Slubice area where bridges were (re)built. Scaffolding made separation of the convoys there necessary and with the assistance of special small motor tugs were the barges. The result was an obligatory night stop.
