Russian protected cruiser Aurora visited the Dutch East Indies in 1911

An item reported that the Russian armoured cruiser Aurora (1) visited Sabang between 18-21 November and Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies between 21-29 December 1911.(2)

Notes
1. Of the Pallada-class protected cruisers, preceded by Svetlana and succeeded by Varyag, laid down at the Admiralty Shipyard, St. Petersburg, Russia on 23 May 1897, launched on 11 May 1900, commissioned on 29 July 1903, still existing.
2. The Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated Friday 17 November published an item dated Sabang 15th reporting the expected arrival on Saturday for bunkering coal, water and victuals. The Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 27 November reported the arrival at Sabang on the 19th at 11:30 o’clock for a stay of 2-4 days. The Dutch flottila vessel Hr.Ms. Aassahan and present Dutch cargo ships flagged. The edition dated dated 19 December 1911 reported the expected arrival at Tandjong Priok on Thursday morning of the 6.800 tons Russian cruiser Aurora. On board was grand duke Boris Wladimirovitch who was to present the Russian czar te coronation at Bangkok, Siam. He probably would stay for a fortnight on Java. Boris Vladimorovich (24 November 1877 Saint Petersburg, Russia-9 November 1943 Paris, France), army officer with the rank of major general.
