Laid down by the Kaiser Shipbuilding Company, Vancouver, Washington, USA with yard number 159 as the US LST 455 on 3 August 1942, launched on 17October 1942, commissioned on 30 January 1943, converted into a Landing Craft Repair Ship in May 1943, reclassified as the ARL-41 renamed Achilles on 21 August 1944, decommissioned on 19 July 1946, stricken on28 August 1946, handed over the Republic of China [Taiwan] on 8 September 1947, commissioned as the Hsing An on 5 November 1947, run aground, abandoned and captured by Chinese communists forces, commissioned as the repair ship Takusan/Taku Shan by mid 1980s Dagushan and apparently still in service by 2000? Displacement 4.000 tons and as dimensions 316 (waterline)-328 (over all) x 50 x 11 feet. Two diesel electric engines supplying via 2 shafts 1.800bhp allowing a speed of 11 knots. Armament in the 1950s 1-3” gun and 8-4cm anti aircraft guns and by 1999 6x2-3,7cm guns and 22-14.5mm guns.
