Crew scuttled German merchant ship Idarwald according to the Dutch newspaper De Indische courant dated 11 December 1940

Danae-class

An item dated London, England 10th referred to an official statement reporting that the British cruiser HMS Diomede s(1) topped the German merchant ship Idarwald.(2) The British prize crew sent on board could not prevent the scuttling by the German crew. All 45 German sailors became prisoners of war.

1. Part of the Danea-class cruisers, building ordered in March 1918, laid down by Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness, England on 3 June 1918, launched on 29 April 1919, commissioned in October 1922, decommissioned on 5 March 1946 and sold to be broken up on 13 May 1946 to Arnott Young, Dalmuir, Scotland.
2. Built by the Deutsche Werft .G. Betrieb, Finkenwarder, Hamburg, Germany in 1923 for the Hamburg Amerikanische Packetfahrt A.G., Hamburg and scuttled on the 8th. Gross register tonnage 5.098 tons and as main dimensions 121,8 x 6,5 metres.
