Military and non-military objects alongside the Danube between Galati and Braila according to a CIA report dated 31 August 1955


An item referred apparently to an account of sailor who passed with his ship several harbours on the Romanian part of the Lower Danube. He stated that underway from Galati toward Braila he sighted several military and non-military objects. A hospital was situated at the 83rd mile, one mile further were two large arched doors seen giving an entrance to an underground area. The pilot informed that this was an ammunition storage. The top of the entrances was olive painted. Between both miles were a radio station and a 2-story building on the geographical position 45.23.30 north and 28/00 east, a guard post and beyond two low military building and furthermore a lighthouse adjacent to a wood area. In front of the ammunition storage, the radio station and other building were trenches visible.
