An item reported that the Polish Salvage Organisation (P.R.O.) since April 1951 among other salvage operations was employed in the salvage of the German battle cruiser Gneisenau (1) sunk during the Second World Wat in the harbour of Gdynia, Poland. The wreck was completely removed and scrapped.

1. Described as battleship and as battle cruiser. Sister ship Scharnhorst. Laid down by Deutsche Werke, Kiel, Germany under the contract name “E” to replace the obsolete Hessen on 6 May 1935, launched on 8 December 1936, completed in May 1938, heavily damaged during a British air attack om the night of 26-27 February 1942, decommissioned 1 July 1942, early 1943 were the repairs stopped and scuttled as block ship in Gotenhafen (Polish Gdynia) on 27 March 1945. Salvaged and sold to be broken up by 1951.
