The catch results of the Dutch Greenland whalers according tot he Dutch newspaper Amsterdamse courant dated 10 July 1764


An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 9 July reported the arrival on 6 July at Texel, Netherlands of J.A. Ooms with 4 whales 175 quardelen returning from Greenland. Due his ship was leaking Ooms was forced to return from the ice leaving on 15 June. He supplied more details about the results of the other whalers: R.G. Meyer and G. Kruyt each 5 whales, J.J. Gront 2, M. Vermeulen 3, D.C. Hogerduyn and J. Strop each 5, M.M. de Wit, P. Bandix, H. Ooms, A. Ariaansz, G.L. Smit, T.C. Root, M. Boon. D. Driewesz and J.P. Bras each 1. Ooms said the he caught on 77 degrees off the ice on 13 May his first whale, on 16 May with 125 whalers om 78.5 degrees they found the ice closed not able to go further on, on 29 May on 77.25 degrees he caught 2 whales, on 3 June another 2 whales of which he lost one after towing for four days. On 11 May commandeur Dirk Driewes caught a whale of 40 barrels, commandeurs Steffen Jansen, Geert Geelds and Jacob Jansen each caught whales and on 29 May commandeur J.J. Knuttel caught one. In Greenland had been a lot of northern winds with snow and heavy south sea. All ship were above him in the north he thought. On his outward bound voyage he had a lot of nice weather.
