Armour plating for Italian battleships partly ordered abroad according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1911 No. 9

An item reported that the Italian cabinet wanted to order abroad at least part of the armour needed for the warships at that moment in construction. The firm Carnegie Steel Co. was to deliver 4.100 ton while she was the cheapest with 2.132 francs/ton. Other tenders were of Schneider representing a French group 2.465, Messrs. Cammel 2.675 and Krupp 2.700 francs/ton.(1)

1. At that moment were the Dante Alighieri (1909-1913) and the Conte di Cavour-class consisting of the Conte di Cavour (1901-1915), Guilio Cesare (1910-1914) and Leonardo da Vinci (1910-1914) under construction.
